Unleashing the A.I. Genie

If we look back on the past 200 years, we would notice one common pattern. A constant battle between civilizations, companies, people. But what is the outcome, who had won in the past and who will win in this new century?

The final beneficiary in the battle for the current century has the potential of gaining more than anyone has ever dreamed of. Why would this be the case and is this even possible? The answer is simple — we live in a world of unexpected circumstances and incredible change, never before seen on a global level, allowing for vast developmental leaps and immense opportunities. In front of us, we see economic, political, social, and most importantly, technological changes taking place at a lightning-fast speed.

The kind of speed which sees some minds left behind; trapped in time, holding on to old-world legacies. The winner might even ultimately receive the whole piece of the pie, unlike the centuries before us, with the prospect of dictating (directly or indirectly) what the world will be like, what financial or political system it will run on, and even what food will be eaten or what air we will breathe. It sounds completely totalitarian, but it’s not. This is the future of AI technologies and things can certainly turn out beautifully with the right guidance and harness of power if we allow it. No individual can control all of these changes at once, although one can certainly influence them. And like never before, it’s important to know what is going on around us to make the right impact.

Let us examine the current situation within the artificial intelligence area. I believe it will be responsible for countless changes. For example, job losses, faster/better services, better education, and so on — all depending on where it will be used. But what stands at the core of AI and why will it create such a huge impact on our lives? How can a bunch of algorithms lead to job loss? Has a similar thing ever occurred in history (and I mean — ever)? Not exactly. We are about to experience something that has never happened before. And we are not even aware of what can go wrong and how to mitigate those risks.

We can write never-ending books on this topic. However, put simply from a practical and down-to-earth point of view, we need to understand our priorities. We need to know what the final result should look like, and how to get there. Are we aiming for an increase in unemployment rates, or are we aiming to improve our lives, to increase life-satisfaction, and enhance people’s overall success factors? What exactly is our strategy? Are we on a plane that’s flying in the air, without anyone knowing where it’s heading? Just imagine how long it will stay in the air before it loses control and bitterly crashes down.

If we could define clearly what our goal with artificial intelligence is, we could easily put up a roadmap and execute it. Has anyone told us about it? If so, are we all clear on what it is because it will essentially impact every single individual.

I’m a CTO at Fenorri, where we have many ambitious plans for the future of our AI innovations and the benefits they will bring to businesses and our society. We want to help make this reality a better place and prevent any negative impact on individuals in a fast-approaching AI-driven world. Whilst we cannot control others (i.e. how they will leverage their influence and opportunities with AI), we do try to educate people on how to get the most out of our innovations. Based on my observations, it all comes down to each individual’s personal ethics and agenda. The government can set any laws and regulations for AI, and that will be perfectly logical, but the final result will heavily rely on how people will use this technology. Just like in previous centuries — unless people awaken to a higher conscience and choose to be primarily guided by their goodwill, we cannot force this world to be a better place, rather, we can do our best to educate and influence. We all have to be part of it, take responsibility, and realize that we all need a similar vision. Our future life vision has to somehow lead us all in the same direction. If that can be aligned, then we will certainly achieve significantly superior results than the generations before us.
