Fall, Burrow, Then Flee

Photo by Madara Parma on Unsplash

And for now I’ll take the fall,

For now, I’ll take it all.

I am the quiet fool,

Who sees everything, but says nothing,

Except when the timing is all wrong.

No melody to enhance this bird’s song,

Just a solo, lengthy cry,

A plea, that no one heard,

Not the wise and watching owl,

Not the lonely squirrel hoarding nuts –

Burying them deep, like my fears

That haunt me in the middle of the long starry night,

Alone I run,

And flee into the dawn.

~Feathertales
